First of Many

Preparing the blankets with ribbon and tags

Today we are very happy to say that Layers of Love will ship out the first of what we will hope will be many shipments of child-sized fleece blankets to the Isaiah Alonso Foundation.  The foundation is going to hand them out to children who have cancer to provide them with comfort and warmth as they go through their treatments.  We are thrilled to be working with this wonderful foundation.

Some fleece blankets to be shipped

We started with a goal of 10 blankets for the Isaiah Alonso Foundation and are very proud to say that we have gone above and beyond that mark of 10 blankets.  Today we will ship out 18 brand new fleece blankets. 🙂

Blankets waiting to be packaged up to ship out.

The blankets are all packed in boxes and ready for shipment.

Our blanket drive continues.  As long as their are chemotherapy patients, whether a child or an adult, we will continue to collect brand new fleece blankets to give to the patients to provide them with comfort and warmth while they are going through treatment.

We could not do what we do without the generous donations of both fabric, and blanket kits from our friends all over the United States and the globe.  We have received donations from as far away as Ireland.  We are very grateful of your continued support.  If you would like to donate to us please see the FAQ and Donation Guidelines tabs above.  If you have any questions please contact us at donations@layersoflove.net or leave a comment below. Thank  you.

You Are Invited!

If you are in the Lehigh Valley Area you are invited to join us at our first of two Palmerton Area Library Blanket Tying Events.  The first event will take place on Thursday May 13 from 6:30 – 8 p.m.

Join us as we will be preparing hand tied fleece blankets to donate to provide comfort and warmth to those patients who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Here are the specifics:

What should I bring? Yourself, fleece material to make a blanket, or a no sew fleece blanket kit, a pair of scissors, and a friend!

I don’t have a blanket kit where can I get one? You can purchase one ahead of time at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores, or you can simply bring a $15.00 donation (to cover the cost of the blanket kit) with you and we will have a limited selection of kits available for you to purchase right at the library that night.

BE PREPARED!!

We have found when tying blankets, friendships flourish, conversations flow, and everyone has a lot of fun all for a great cause!

We are listening to you!  This event is a result of the ideas you have brought to us.  This event is perfect for those of you who have pets and wanted to make sure your blankets were prepared in a NO pet hair zone. Keep your ideas coming!  We appreciate your input and are working hard to make sure we implement as many of your ideas as possible to become a reality.

*Mark your calendars! Our second Blanket Tying event will be a daytime event held on Friday June 11 from 10-11:30 a. m. We hope to see you there!

Another Way To Help the Donation Drive

For those of you who do not have a craft store near you where you can purchase kits and have never made a homemade hand tied fleece blanket before, and would love to help us out with the blanket donation drive but aren’t quite sure how to, we have great news to announce today!

Perhaps you have seen the latest blankets that were donated to our blanket drive earlier this week.

These are hand sewn fleece blankets.  They are beautiful aren’t they?

Here at Layers of Love we know not everyone has the stores where they live that carry the No Sew Blanket kits.  We also know that many of you would love to help out with our blanket drive but aren’t sure how to help if the kits aren’t available to you. We now have an exciting new way for those of you to be able to help our donation drive.

Today we are very happy to announce that we have a volunteer who would like to sew these blankets for us.  We are now able to accept donated fleece fabric!! With a great deal of thanks to our talented volunteer, we will be able to have the blankets prepared and ready to use from your generous fabric donations.

What kind of fleece fabric should can we use?  We can use basically any kind.  Remember, these blankets are going to adult chemotherapy patients, both male and female.  You could choose a sports theme, a patterned theme, or just a solid colored fabric.  We recommend that the fabric be at least 72 inches in length.

You can ship your fabric donation to:

Your fleece blanket donations are making it possible for a cancer patient to have comfort and warmth as they are  undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Cooper Cancer Institute in Voorhees, New Jersey  We are so thankful and grateful for all the donations we have received so far.  None of this would be possible without all of your help. Thank you!

We are also very grateful for those of you who have contacted Layers of Love with your ideas, we are working very hard to implement many of your ideas.  If you have an idea, or suggestion, or would like to volunteer to sew blankets for us, please don’t hesitate to contact us.  You can do so through the comments below or reach us through our email at layersoflove1@gmail.com
